Make this crowd-pleasing Tater Tot Nachos recipe for your next game day or quick family dinner. Crispy tater tots are layered with seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and fresh toppings for a comforting, easy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs frozen tater tots
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1 cup water
  • 8 oz shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 4 oz queso dip (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1/2 cup salsa or pico de gallo
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeƱos (fresh or pickled)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Spread the frozen tater tots in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Bake according to package directions until they are golden brown and crispy, usually about 20-25 minutes.
  2. While the tots bake, prepare the beef. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart until fully browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Stir the taco seasoning and water into the cooked ground beef. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated and the meat is well coated.
  4. Remove the crispy tater tots from the oven. Keep the oven temperature at 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Distribute the seasoned ground beef evenly over the hot tater tots on the baking sheet.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the beef and tots. If using queso, drizzle it over the top layer.
  7. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 5-8 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove the sheet pan from the oven. Top the loaded tater tot nachos with salsa, sliced jalapeƱos, sour cream, and fresh cilantro.
  9. Serve immediately as a game day appetizer or quick family dinner.

Notes

  • For extra crispy tots, bake them on a wire rack set inside the baking sheet.
  • You can prepare the seasoned ground beef ahead of time to save time when assembling.
  • Substitute ground beef with cooked chorizo or shredded chicken for a different flavor profile.
  • Use a sheet pan for easy cleanup, as this recipe is a great sheet pan nachos variation.
