Make this sweet and savory honey garlic chicken in one skillet. It is a fast, family-favorite meal perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • Optional: Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  4. Whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and ground ginger in a small bowl. Pour this mixture into the skillet. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce while stirring constantly. Continue stirring until the sauce thickens, about 1 minute.
  6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Toss the chicken until it is fully coated in the thick, sticky honey garlic sauce.
  7. Remove from heat. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving over rice or with steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can marinate the chicken in half of the sauce mixture for 15 minutes before cooking.
  • If you prefer chicken thighs, they work well in this recipe and stay very juicy.
  • Serve this dish over fluffy white rice or brown rice to soak up the extra sauce.
