Prepare this creamy skillet ground turkey pasta for a quick, comforting, and family-friendly weeknight dinner. This recipe uses lean ground turkey and comes together fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 8 ounces penne or ziti pasta
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, roughly chopped
  • Fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground turkey to the skillet. Break it apart with a spoon and cook until browned completely, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the turkey and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the diced tomatoes (with their juice) and the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Add the dry pasta to the skillet, stirring to submerge it in the liquid.
  7. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the pasta from sticking to the bottom, until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  8. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  9. Fold in the fresh spinach until it wilts into the hot pasta.
  10. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor inspired by celebrity chef techniques, use a mix of ground turkey and ground pork.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, let the uncovered mixture simmer for an extra 2 minutes after adding the cream.
  • This recipe works well for meal prep; store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
