Make this vibrant Firecracker Margarita featuring fresh jalapeño heat and a chili-salt rim. This recipe balances sweet, sour, and spicy flavors for an energetic cocktail.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Blanco Tequila
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 0.75 oz Orange Liqueur (Cointreau recommended)
  • 0.5 oz Agave Nectar
  • 3 thin slices Fresh Jalapeño
  • For the Rim: Coarse Salt mixed with Chili Powder
  • Ice
  • Lime wedge for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the rim: Mix coarse salt and chili powder on a small plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and press the rim into the chili salt mixture.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle the three slices of fresh jalapeño. Do not over-muddle, as this can release too much bitterness.
  3. Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave nectar to the shaker.
  4. Fill the shaker with ice.
  5. Seal the shaker and shake hard until well-chilled, about 15 to 20 seconds.
  6. Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice.
  7. Double strain the mixture into the prepared glass to keep out jalapeño seeds and pulp.
  8. Garnish with a fresh lime wedge. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a less intense heat, remove the seeds and white membranes from the jalapeño before muddling.
  • If you prefer a sweeter drink, increase the agave nectar to 0.75 oz.
  • You can infuse your tequila ahead of time by letting the jalapeño slices sit in the tequila for 1 hour, then strain before mixing.
