Create a rich, velvety chocolate fondue that stays perfectly smooth. This simple recipe is ideal for parties, romantic evenings, or a cozy night in, using quality chocolate for the best flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces high-quality bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate (chopped or chips)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare your dippers first. Arrange fruits, marshmallows, pound cake cubes, and cookies on platters.
  2. Combine the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Heat the cream until it just begins to simmer around the edges; do not let it boil.
  3. Remove the cream from the heat. Add the chopped chocolate and salt to the warm cream. Let it sit undisturbed for 5 minutes to allow the chocolate to soften.
  4. Gently whisk the mixture starting from the center, slowly incorporating the cream and chocolate until the mixture is completely smooth and glossy.
  5. Whisk in the butter and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  6. Transfer the chocolate fondue to a fondue pot or a small slow cooker set to the lowest setting to keep it warm. Stir occasionally during serving.
  7. Serve immediately with your prepared dippers.

Notes

  • For a Crock Pot Chocolate Fondue variation, combine all ingredients in a small slow cooker and cook on LOW for about 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes until smooth.
  • If your fondue becomes too thick while serving, stir in one teaspoon of warm heavy cream at a time until the desired consistency returns.
  • To make a Melting Pot Chocolate Fondue copycat, add 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract along with the vanilla for a subtle flavor note.
  • Consider building a Chocolate Fondue Board with fresh strawberries, pineapple, pretzels, brownie bites, and shortbread cookies for an impressive presentation.
