Make this easy, gooey chocolate chip cookie baked right in a cast iron skillet. It is a perfect, warm, family-style dessert for social gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not grease the 10-inch cast iron skillet.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in both types of chocolate chips using a spatula.
  7. Press the cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the dry cast iron skillet.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the edges are set and golden brown, but the center still looks slightly underdone.
  9. Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool in the skillet for at least 15 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve directly from the skillet with ice cream for a decadent experience.

Notes

  • For an extra decadent treat, press a few extra chocolate chips onto the top of the dough before baking.
  • You can substitute half of the semi-sweet chips with white chocolate chips for a different flavor profile.
  • This recipe is best eaten warm, straight from the skillet.
