Make perfectly crispy dill pickle fries in your air fryer. This recipe uses a simple breading process to achieve a satisfying crunch without deep frying, offering a quick and easy snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 jar (16 ounces) dill pickle spears or chips, drained well
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional, for the egg wash)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Cooking spray (oil or avocado oil based)

Instructions

  1. Remove pickles from the jar and pat them completely dry using paper towels. This step is crucial for crispiness.
  2. Set up a standard breading station with three shallow dishes.
  3. In the first dish, whisk together the flour, salt, and pepper.
  4. In the second dish, lightly beat the eggs and mix in the hot sauce, if using.
  5. In the third dish, combine the panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese, if using.
  6. Working in small batches, dredge each pickle piece first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  7. Dip the floured pickle into the egg wash, letting any excess drip off.
  8. Finally, press the pickle firmly into the panko mixture to coat evenly on all sides.
  9. Lightly spray the breaded pickles with cooking spray.
  10. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
  11. Arrange the pickle fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap. You will need to cook in batches.
  12. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through. Spray lightly with cooking spray again during the flip.
  13. Continue cooking until the coating is golden brown and crispy.
  14. Serve immediately with your preferred dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use dill pickle spears or thick chips for the best results. Bread and butter pickles will be too sweet for this savory preparation.
  • For a keto air fryer snack option, substitute almond flour for the all-purpose flour and omit the Parmesan cheese if tracking carbs strictly.
  • To make these even crispier, you can chill the breaded pickles on a wire rack in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before air frying.
  • Serve with a simple ranch dressing or a spicy aioli for the best air fryer dipping sauces experience.
